Ladies, these are the ones. Accept no substitutes. Hunter is the preeminent brand of Wellies. Whether you love the Royals (the British Royal Family) or not, admit they got it right choosing these boots for their country life. What other footwear is a home decorating statement? Other shoes left lying about look untidy. Hunter Wellies lined up at a bench in your entryway will be proof positive of your outstanding good taste. You’ll be surprised at the comfort of these sturdy boots. And one can vary the snugness with thin or thick socks, Wellie Warmers or the like. Why choose Short boots? To avoid discomfort behind the knees from the tall ones, especially if you expect not to be tucking trousers into them all the time. The Shorts look great with all manner of sporty, outdoor or equestrian wear. In black or olive, they make a glorious fashion understatement. Do you really want to go about like Jemimah Puddleduck or a preschooler? Stay away from the garish, bright colors in these classics. Pair the black or green ones with a sweaterdress, tucked in corduroys and a lovely peacoat, or jeans and a field coat. Tie a Hermes scarf costing five times as much over your hair, if you must. Do yourself a favor. Scuff the Hunter Wellies up a bit, and leave a little soil dried into the treads and edges. This lends an air of casual elegance. Wellies straight out of the box are kind of like super bright white sneakers. If you don’t want to look like a tool, walk through a barnyard, or a construction site if you haven’t a barnyard at hand. Instant credibility. There’s also a fine Hunter Wellie pouch made by the manufacturer. A separate item retailing in England for about $20, the neoprene logo baglet clips to the boot’s buckles, with a sewn on, wide elastic that stretches around the entire leg. Taking your dog out for “walkies,” attending a festival or outdoor concert, hiking the moors…if you drop your keys, ATM card or money “somewhere along the way” in the rain, it’s a disaster. Add a Wellie Pouch to your Hunter Wellies, and your worries are over. A pair of Hunter Wellingtons have a very attractive price point, and will last for years, actually getting better over time. Do invest in real Hunter Wellingtons. They won’t gather dust in your closet.

I thought this short boot would be the winner of my ginormous-calves-that-won’t-fit-a-regular-boot challenge. But alas, my calves win again. It scrapes at the bottom of my calves, making it really painful to walk. I’m going to have to return them. I’m sure they’re dandy for people with slimmer calves. My search continues…

I just received these Hunter rain boots and am so disappointed! They are adorable but they are huge! I am a very consistent size 7, I ordered a 7 and my feet were swimming in them! I looked like a kid who put her dad’s rain boots on. They are however, very well made and super cute so I will be exchanging them for a smaller size!

Great boot. True to size. I also ordered a size down just in case, but it was too small. I have large calves, but these boots fit fine even with a pair of skinny jeans. These boots have such a polished, classic style. I purchased them in navy. Pretty comfy too.

Perfect for me, at 4’11”. The tall Hunter boots look good on taller people, but they came up to my knees and made me look shorter. So these are just right, midcalf length. Love them, wear them every time it rains. They do run a bit big, but that’s good so you can wear big socks for winter.

Love! I love everything about these boots. The green I bought is a nice medium hunter green that is surprisingly versatile and not boring at all. I originally ordered the tall version of these boots but found the tall shaft kind of stiff and uncomfortable. With the short version I can wear them with almost any pants and just tuck them in instead of having to wear skinny jeans or leggings like with the tall version – I hate having to plan my outfit around a rainy day like that. They run a half size big so order down – I wear an 8.5 and the size 8 fits me perfectly with medium weight socks. I knocked one star off for comfort because they are rubber and so naturally a bit stiff and awkward but that is to be expected I guess.

Love these boots. Wore them in the rain all around Sweden with a blue coat (flag colors) and not only did they last on my feet for over 7 hours, I got lots of compliments on them. Thick socks work best and fewer hours on your feet would be better. Nice height for a taller woman 5″8″ and a sturdy heel for walking. Wide enough for jeans tucked down inside and nice roomy toe box. Can’t wait to try them in snow this winter.

I got these in black after reading all of the reviews. I got them a size smaller and they fit well. My only complaint/warning for people is that they are hard to get over the ankle and fit snug around my ankles. It’s not a problem for me, but I have extremely thin legs and ankles (people constantly tell me I have chicken legs), so I worry for people with even regular sized legs and ankles that this could be an issue for you. Just a caution!

Great boots. They do run very big. I usually wear a 7.5 to 8 and ordered 7 and they are still roomy enough for some wool socks. Not real cushy boots but very functional.

Oh happy day, they fit! I have huge, athletic calves (17 inch) and tiny ankles, so I have never found boots taller than ankle length that fit. (I got the Hunter tall boots for Christmas and they were way too tight on my calves and huge in the ankle.) These boots, however, are fantastic. They are comfortable and very warm. I can’t wait to wear cable socks that peak over the top of them. My only complaint is that the top of the boot brushes the very bottom of my calf and is irritating when I’m not wearing socks or thick pants. Yay!

Love my short navy Hunter rain boots. I have some tall rain boots, but love having a pair of the short. They are easy to put on, and I can still tuck my jeans in them. I wear a 7 1/2, and the 8 fits good. Happy with purchase.

I loved these boots when I first got them. I stuck some Superfeet in them for support and I could walk around on rainy streets all day in comfort. Then, by the next rainy season, the dreaded white waxy film set in. I tried the Hunter spray, olive oil, Armor All, and nothing worked…a whole winter passed and I never wore them because they looked terrible. Here it is, the next winter, and I’ve just spent another 90 minutes scrubbing away with the Hunter spray and Goo Gone and they look just as bad as when I started. I’ve watched people clean theirs on YouTube and read loads of reviews where people say all these things work, but not on mine. These are going back in the closet and I’ll never buy another pair of Hunters. My beloved wellies. So sad.

Great boot, and a much better option than the standard height Hunters for people with Human sized legs.

I really love these boots. I am 5’1″ and have a thick calf and these boots are perfect. I can stuff my jeans into them or wear skinny jeans or even wear them with tights – they are perfect in most any situation. The color is really cute as well. I am a size 8 and I purchased the size 8. Personally I think that even though the fit is a little loose, it is the right fit to wear with jeans. I found an 8 to be perfect.

Love these boots. My daughter has a pair and highly recommended them and when I needed a pair of rain/snow/rough weather boots…not wanting to copy her I ordered a completely different brand. Unsatisfied, I finally ordered my own pair of Hunters and immediately loved them and wondered why I just didn’t listen to my daughter in the first place. These boots are stylish, comfortable, durable and warm enough for the Colorado climate I live in…and now like my daughter I am highly recommending them. Oh, and did I mention they are easy on and easy off…now my only problem is what color to order next.

I was reluctant to get the exact same pair of rain boots that every other woman in Chicago has, but I got sick of having wet feet. These boots are comfortable and completely waterproof. They are very cozy with the welly socks.

I bought the short Hunter boots for my NYC daughter, and she is thrilled. I love Zappos because if it doesn’t work out, you don’t feel ripped off. I bought a dress from another catalog. It was horrible, not like it looked or was purported to be. I had already paid shipping, and I had to pay shipping to send it back. Never again.

I love them! Super cute and comfortable with the yellow fleece socks. I usually wear an 8 1/2 but the 8 fit perfectly even with the sock. I wore them to the flea market and got tons of compliments and of course I let them know where I got them. I love your company!
Beth –
I love these boots! Unfortunately, they began to peel the top layer of coating off last year. I would expect Hunter boots to hold up way better than that. I only wear them on rainy days up here in MN- not in the snow or on ice. I am very disappointed that they have deteriorated so much just from a handful of times I wear them each year. I know the return window long expired, but I hope Zappos will stand by its product and send me a replacement pair. Attached are pics showing the deterioration of the boots. Thanks tons- Beth Patterson

These boots are super comfortable and true to size. I’m just thrilled with them as they are just what I needed for beach walking in the winter 🙂

Love these boots! My Tretorn boots started leaking so it was time for new wellies. I’m a size 8 in everything. 5’6”, 115lbs. I’m glad Zappos makes it so simple to buy two sizes and return one because there’s a lot of discrepancy over sizing on these boots. In my opinion they are true to size. These boots are meant to have room to spare, they aren’t supposed to fit like a running shoe and form to your foot, you are supposed to have some sloppiness to them as you walk. I put the 7 on first with bare feet and my toe touched the end even though there was room within the boot. Even with a bare foot I put the 8 on and though they were roomy when you begin to walk around you get used to it. I bought the hunter short boot fleece insert socks and they make the boot fit perfectly. I suppose if you were in between sizes you may prefer to go down than up but don’t go down a full size. Buy your regular size. I got the thundercloud color and they’re a gorgeous cross between a matte fushia-lavender and grey. Hard to describe the color. They are very comfortable and some say they’re heavy but I think they’re in line with what I would expect from a rain boot. I love them.

When I bought these a few years ago, I was worried that water would seep through as I had read about that on a few reviews. I can say now, however, that my Hunters have held up fabulously and my feet have never gotten wet.
I purchased the short rain boots as I am 5’4″ and tall boots didn’t look right, as much as I had wanted those. I originally bought these as a rain boot, and while I do wear them every time it rains here, which is a lot, I wear them even more for when I’m working outside. Our property is heavily wooded in areas that we are constantly working on. Leaves a few feet high in some areas. I wear my Hunters when I’m out in the woods clearing leaves, gathering wood, working in my veggie garden. With the heavy rain this year, our yard turned in to a muddy mess. These boots were my only choice when I had to walk through that mud.
That said, they’re pretty caked in mud in some areas but I can still wear them with my cute fall sweaters and they look great. I bought they navy and they go with everything. So they’re cute AND extremely functional. I’m actually on here looking at them again because I want to get another pair that maybe I can keep a bit cleaner. I didn’t mean for my original to be my only work boot, but it is so functional that it is now my outdoor work boot. I has kept my feet dry and my legs and pants from getting nasty bugs or scrapes from walking through brush. Rare is the item that looks this good yet holds up to some pretty gross conditions outside.
Totally worth the money. Great investment.

I have always wanted a pair of Hunter Boots and finally splurged and got bright yellow (my favorite color) and matching ones for my 1yo daughter! I did have to return the tall ones for the short ones bc though I don’t feel I have huge calves, apparently I do because I literally couldn’t get them off and needed my husband to pry them off of me!!!
These worked great however!

I loved these initially, comfy out of the box and great looking. However, I received them in January 2021 and have worn them maybe once every other week since then. It’s now May 2021 and I’m returning them because they began to peel an outer coating and look absolutely disgusting.
I live in the tropics and it’s rainy season, so it’s both warm and wet here, maybe these boots can’t handle that – but they haven’t been subjected to any crazy conditions or chemicals or anything that would explain the gross peeling. Just some rain, which, you know, they should be able to handle as rain boots.
In addition to looking terrible I’m worried the coating plays a role in their water resistance and that they’ll begin to leak. For me, these boots were an investment, they’re expensive and I was hoping they’d last for years, not a few months. Pretty disappointing.
Danga –
All fine, except after a few wears the boots developed this so called “blooming”. Supposedly normal. Will try olive oil on soft cloth to rub it out.
